Over
a year ago, we attended a meeting of
married priests (Corpus) held in the
meeting room of the Inclusive Community in
Nutley. We were pleasantly surprised to
meet two people whom I had not seen since
seminary days, Anthony Padavano and Dick
Scaine. It was a joyous reunion. Anthony
invited us to come to one of the
Community’s services and we have continued
to be a part of the community since then.
The worship features the most inspiring
homilies that we have ever heard, a
combination of sound theology, scholarship
and practicality. Another feature, which
has helped us grow in faith, has been the
educational lectures given by Dick Scaine,
assisted by his wife Mary.
We joined the Inclusive Community last
year and on February 4th of this year, I
was honored to accept an invitation from
the Community to be installed as a member
of the clergy team. It delights me that I
can prepare my sermons in partnership with
my wife, Terry. The atmosphere is very
casual and spontaneity and creativity are
the order of the day. All of the members
of the Community with whom we share humor,
sorrows and the highs and lows of daily
life are much like what we envision the
early Christian communities to have been.
